Chincoteague Ponies

The Chincoteague ponies first became well-known through the children’s books that Marguerite Henry wrote, starting with Misty of Chincoteague. There are two herds on Assateague Island (Virginia & Maryland), one on Chincoteague National Park and one at Assateague National Seashore/Park. This band is at Chincoteague and is managed by the town’s Fire Department. The stallion is the son of the stallion from Henry’s books. He is majestic, calm, & attentive with his mares. His blond (wiggish-looking) mane covering his eyes is striking. This was taken one evening as the band moved from one area to another. To learn more about these ponies, check out:
